The Pacific Broadcasting Services closed down its operation to protect the customer’s interest according to City West Broadcasting Services Ltd Director and PBS CEO Simon Fong.
Fong said that City West Group funds PBS operations and that on the 30th June he was informed by their Australian office that City West had gone into receivership whereby the new owners will be getting in touch with them however still have not done so.
Fong added that around 27 employees were sent home whereby a skeleton staff was kept and that at present it is only the Hindi channels that are not working.
He added the worst case scenario is that the receivers of City West will turn the PBS signal off and that the best case scenario is that when the shareholders meet at the end of this month, they may decide to continue with the service.
Meanwhile, the Consumer Council of Fiji said that more than 300 people have lodged complaints with them about the alleged poor service of PBS.
According to the Council, there are 5,000 active PBS TV subscribers.
