Consumers will soon have a wider range of canned fish products to choose from as the Pacific Fishing Company has expanded its product line of canned fish on local supermarket shelves.
PAFCO Chief Operating Officer Chandra Prakash revealed that the canned foods are sardines and mackerels mixed in oil and tomato sauce.
Prakash said local supermarkets have started selling these new products and once the local market is saturated, the Company plans to start exporting overseas, which will ultimately add to the volume of exports and earn Fiji valuable export dollars.
Currently PACFCO exports over $120 million of tuna products annually, out of which $25 million is local input like labour, raw materials and other utilities.
The PAFCO Board is expected to reveal further details of their expansion plans after their board meeting later this month.
