Over 200 students are benefiting from free tuition at Koroipita’s new Expedia-Rosie Learning Centre which is an educational hub designed to support the community’s academic growth and development.
The initiative marks a significant step in post-COVID recovery with education being emphasized as a key tool to improve the lives of students.
The Learning Centre has a refurbished library with over 2,000 books which provides a peaceful space for study and workshops, qualified teachers who offers tutoring after school hours and on Saturdays to ensure students receive extra academic support.
In an interview with fijivillage news, the General Manager of the Koroipita community Paul Forrest highlighted the immense benefits of the new Learning Centre, calling it a transformative space for students with 12 computers and internet access where students can improve their digital literacy and engage in programs that pave the way for future employment.
Forrest says the goal is to ensure every student completes high school and finds pathways into tertiary education or employment.
He further says this initiative also ensures that students stay away from negative influences such as drugs and other harmful activities during their spare time by providing a structured learning environment with free tuition to encourage students to focus on their education, offering them a positive alternative.
Meanwhile, Area Manager for Expedia, Victoria Hudson says the Centre is expected to have a long-lasting impact, unlocking new opportunities for students and securing brighter futures.
