The first half of this year has seen over $175 million worth of film productions in Fiji which is a 29.6% increase from last year’s total production value.
This was highlighted by Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya while officiating the 2017 Film Fiji Stakeholders Seminar at Momi Bay this morning.
A total of 57 productions valued at $135 million took place in Fiji last year.
Koya says that production companies spent $43 million directly into the economy and generated new economic activity levels of $120.4 million.
He says the sector contributed over 0.9% to the Fijian GDP last year.
The Minister also revealed that Government paid out more than $20 million in rebates to film production companies in 2016.
He adds that this year it is going to be busier with more quality productions scheduled for the second half of this year.
Meanwhile, two international producers Ralph Winter and Jesse Jensen were also present at the seminar.
