More than 100 players turned up today at the HFC Bank Stadium hoping to catch National Men’s Fiji Airways 7s coach Ben Gollings eye at the trials, who says they are looking at identifying around 20 to 30 players with 15 contracts that they can offer.

Gollings says they have a squad of core players and this is an opportunity to see some of the players they have identified in the Skipper Cup, local club rugby, under 20's and the Fiji Warriors to see how they transition from the 15s to the 7s environment.

He says it is an opportunity for them to look at these players as some of them have come over from Vanua Levu and the West.

The 7s coach says from here, 7s tournaments will start kicking off and they will be able to watch those players.

He says moving forward they will start their training where they will offer some players to come into camp, and they will narrow it down on the specific players they want to push into the national squad full time.

Gollings says there are 15 contracts up for grabs.

When questioned on what particular positions he is looking for, Gollings says they are looking for some forwards and outside backs to challenge the ones they already have.

Gollings says there will be 20 senior contracts which will make up a full squad and below that will be 10 development contracts.

He says they have those that are not contracted but have communicated to them that they have been identified as well as a reminder for those contracted they need to perform to keep those contracts as there is a lot of talent that want to come through and take that opportunity with both hands.
