The introduction of other forms of payment outside of the current bus cards will have a more consumer-friendly approach that will streamline operations and improve the user experience for Fijians.
This has been highlighted by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission after the Government's recent decision to overhaul the e-ticketing system.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica says the new e-ticketing system will enhance the efficiency of public transportation in Fiji.
Kamikamica says this upgrade not only aims to simplify the process for people but also ensures that the transportation infrastructure keeps pace with technological advancements.
FCCC CEO, Joel Abraham stresses the positive impact of the new system on consumer protection and convenience, particularly in terms of choice.
Abraham says the introduction of more forms of payment will result in a more reliable and user-friendly platform for their transportation needs.
He further says FCCC has a keen interest in the roll-out of the new e-ticketing system to ensure that it meets the required standards of consumer protection and service quality.
The CEO adds the success of this initiative relies on collaboration between the government, service providers and consumers.
The new e-ticketing system is expected to be operational in the coming months, with extensive testing and stakeholder consultations to precede its full implementation.
