The first orthopedic surgery in CWM Hospital will start in September.
The Ministry of Health and Sahyadri Hospitals from India today signed a memorandum of agreement on public private partnership which will see cardiology, neurology, spine and orthopedic surgeries being done in Fiji.
Health Minister, Dr. Neil Sharma said this is a historic achievement for Fiji as 60% to 70% of overseas referrals will now be reduced with this super specialized health care operation available locally.
He said their cost of around $1.4 million on overseas treatment will now be reduced.
Chairman and Managing Director Sahyadri Hospitals Dr. Charudutt Apte said this is not like a contract with Fiji but like a marriage bond which will strengthen in years to come.
He said their team will arrive in Fiji with proper equipment and technology and their aim is to save every life possible at a cheaper cost.
They have done successful surgeries for over 100 people from Fiji.
Meanwhile, bookings for surgeries from September will soon start to take place.
