Opposition MP presents petition for TLTB to review land lease distribution

A petition asking the i-Taukei Land Trust Board to stop and review the effects of lease distribution was presented in parliament today by Opposition MP, Ratu Suliano Matanitobua.

While presenting the petition, Matanitobua called on the TLTB to the review the effects of lease distribution to personal accounts and introduce a new lease structure which reflects the open market rates and prices based on improvement on the land area.

He said the petition claims the i-Taukei people do not have an equitable share of economic and commercial power with other communities to fully benefit from the nation’s economic progress.

The petition has been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources.
