A nationwide stray animal capture campaign – Operation Vesu Manumanu will start in three weeks.
It is being done by the Agriculture Ministry in partnership with Police, the Republic of Fiji Military Forces, Land Transport Authority, Fiji Roads Authority and Biosecurity Authority of Fiji.
Minister Doctor Mahendra Reddy says the issue of stray animals tops their complaints statistics.
He says in 2019, they received 620 complaints about stray animals and last year they received 702 complaints.
Doctor Reddy says they have received 738 complaints so far this year.
He adds complaints include damaging crops, trespassing property, causing harm to other livestock, animals on the road and thus contributing to road fatalities and spreading of diseases like tuberculosis.
