Brumbies coach Dan McKellar admitted it was up to Australian teams to get better if they were to once again compete with New Zealand sides in the Super Rugby Trans Tasman competition.
It was a challenge but the Brumbies, and the Australian teams, had to get better and the Canberra-based side had supported playing a competition against all the New Zealand teams.
McKellar said there was no doubt there was a gulf between the two countries. He said he would be talking rubbish if that point wasn't recognised.
This week, the Crusaders will take on the Western Force at 7.05pm Friday, the Reds will face the Blues at 9.45pm Friday, the Highlanders will play the Waratahs at 7.05pm Saturday, the Brumbies will meet the Hurricanes at 9.45pm Saturday and the Chiefs will host the Rebels at 3.30pm Sunday.
