As Tropical Cyclone Mal has entered the Fiji Group, people in the Northern Division have prepared well for the cyclone as they have learnt lessons from previous cyclones.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Savusavu Town Council employee John Taoi who is working on the construction of the new market says they have been preparing for nearly half a day and have tied down all loose materials.
Taoi is urging people to not be complacent and take heed of the warning as they have learnt not to take things lightly after Tropical Cyclone Winston.
Dreketi resident, Khaiyum Ali says they have been experiencing windy conditions from this morning and people have put up shutters and bought rations as part of the preparatory measures they have taken.
He says they are bracing for the worst and praying to the Almighty for the safety of every Fijian.
Ali says people have learnt their lesson from Tropical Cyclone Yasa and are well prepared.
Naduru, Labasa resident Mohammed Altaaf says the weather started getting worse this afternoon and they are prepared for stronger winds later tonight.
He says people have put up shutters, stored water and rations and have tied down their houses.
TC Mal is also likely to intensify into a category 3 system as it is now in the Fiji Group.
