Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete has confirmed that at the moment there are no outbreak of any infectious diseases in the North as a result of the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
Waqainabete says there is a massive public health campaign happening now in Bua, Cakaudrove and parts of Macuata to allow them to keep a close watch on possible outbreaks.
He says they have noted that there were 1 to 2 cases of typhoid in a few villages before the cyclone and they are keeping a close watch on this.
He says their Fiji Emergency Medical Assessment Team is in the Northern Division to carefully monitor the health situation after TC Yasa.
Waqainabete adds they do a comprehensive visit when they are out in the field where they have with them a doctor, health inspector, dietitian, nurse with all the equipment that is need to provide health and medical services to the villages.
