There are currently no confirmed measles cases in Fiji.
Minister for Health, Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete says the last measles case to be recorded was 2 months ago when a former Fiji citizen was visiting the country with her family and had signs and symptoms of measles.
He says proper medical steps were done to ensure that the virus did not spread.
The Health Ministry is closely monitoring the outbreaks of measles in the region - first the ongoing New Zealand outbreak followed by recent outbreaks declared for Samoa and Tonga.
Waiqainabete says there have been advisories sent out encouraging everyone who has not been immunized to get immunized.
He says the country has a high vaccination rate and we should maintain it.
Waiqainabete adds that as we are heading towards the end of the year it is important to be aware and ready as a nation since this is when outbreaks are at its peak.
