Fiji Rugby Interim Administrator Simione Valenitabua has confirmed to fijivillage News that no national selectors or talent ID personnel were present at the recent Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s that was held in Taveuni over the weekend.
Valenitabua says this is because for two consecutive weekends, they had sent their management to two tournaments that were held in the North prior to the Wairiki 7s and they had to turn their focus to the McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s that was held at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
He says there were a lot of new talents that were discovered at the two tournaments in the North before the Wairiki 7s.
He adds their attention has not only turned to talent identification and selection of potential players but to strength and conditioning, physios, referees and support staff so that it is a holistic development approach.
Valenitabua says instead of just focusing on selecting players, this initiative helps bring in the officials as well who nurture the players in their rugby career.
