The Fijian government has received a project report from Japan International Cooperation Agency in Fiji which has identified nine potential hydro power sites in Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
While handing over the report, Resident Representative of JICA Fiji, Hiroyuki Sawada said the three recommended sites are in Nadarivatu, Waibaka and Wailevu and they hope the Ministry and relevant stakeholders will take this into consideration and will identify the best solution to suit development in the Energy sector.
Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Vijay Nath said currently Fiji is using 60% electricity from renewable energy while 40% electricity generation is from Diesel generators.
