Temples are expected to be filled with devotees of all ages as the Navratri celebration begins today across Fiji and around the world, marking the start of nine days of devotion and prayer in honor of Goddess Durga.
Traditional practices such as Durga Chalisa recitations, offerings, and nightly aartis are combined with modern touches like themed garba and dandiya events, live performances and virtual prayer sessions for those joining remotely.
Each day of Navratri is associated with a unique color symbolizing different qualities of the Goddess, and devotees are encouraged to wear these colors to honor the celebrations—beginning with royal blue today, followed by green, grey, orange, white, red, and purple as the week progresses.
The celebrations will culminate with the festival of Dussehra on the 12th of this month, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
