The Nigerian Women's Football side claimed the top spot in Group B after defeating co-host Australia 3-2 last night in the FIFA Women's World Cup at the Suncorp Stadium, Australia.
Australian midfielder Emily Van Egmond scored the first goal of the match but Nigeria replied with a goal to Uchenna Kanu to equalize.
The game went into halftime with both teams tied at 1-all.
Nigeria held most of the possession during the game and ensured not to give Australia any further opportunities to equalize.
The Nigerian side scored two more goals in the second half while Australia replied with only one goal.
Nigeria now leads Group B with 4 points followed by Canada also with 4 points, Australia is third with 3 points while Ireland is in the 4th place.
In other matches, Portugal defeated Vietnam 2-nil while USA and Netherlands were tied 1-all.
