Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar says the newly appointed Special Administrators come with special skills which will be used to mold the current staff and set a direction for the Municipal Councils'.
While speaking at the reception of Special Administrators at Holiday Inn in Suva, Kumar says by working together they can achieve Fiji's untapped potential and make every Municipal Council a better place.
The Minister says they have to move away from Town Clerks, Director of Health Services and Director of Engineering and modernise the whole organizational structure which fits the needs of today.
She says in other countries, Municipal Councils are the engines for economic growth and it is known as to how much contribution each Municipal Council is making towards the economy.
Kumar says this is not possible in Fiji because we don't have these statistics as most Municipal Councils have failed to complete the valuation of their assets.
She also says that she has been visiting Municipal Councils in Australia and New Zealand as well as various Local Government Associations who are willing to assist Fiji.
