A mother and her 2-week-old son were assisted by police officers in Labasa after heavy rain made it difficult for them to return home from their clinic.

It was a truly rewarding experience for all officers involved, helping mum and her little champ return home safely.

Police say officers have been deployed to assist members of the community in the Northern Division as Tropical Cyclone Rae moves closer to the Fiji group tonight.

For assistance with moving to higher ground, you can contact the Fiji Police Force on 917 or the National Fire Authority on 910, and you can also call the Police Command and Coordination Centre on 9905296.

They add information on designated evacuation centres is available at www.ndmo.gov.fj.

The Fiji NDRMO advises the public to take urgent precautions as TC Rae continues tracking south-southwest toward the Southern Lau Group.
