The National Union of Hospitality Catering and Tourism Industries Employees General Secretary said it is news to him that a new workers union has been formed by the Warwick Resort and Spa Hotel Workers.
Daniel Urai said it is also the workers right under the principal of freedom of association where they are at liberty to form a group.
Fijivillage was told yesterday by the Coral Coast Tourism Catering Workers Union General Secretary Kalaveti Batibasaga the main reason for the breakaway was due to a lot of issues they had taken up to their old union were not answered.
Urai said he is not aware of these issues being brought up to them.
Meanwhile, the Coral Coast Tourism Catering Workers Union General Secretary met with the Ministry of Labour's mediation unit yesterday after their employer Warwick Resort and Spa Hotel raised issues in relation to the clauses in the collective agreement.
Regional Human Resources Director for Warwick Resort and Spa Hotel Uraia Rasake said they have agreed to the consent of the mediator that they will go back to the negotiating table to discuss the issue further.
The two are expected to be back at the Ministry of Labour's mediation unit at the end of this month.
