A serving prisoner has come forward saying he was involved in the killing of five family members in the controversial Nausori Highlands murder case.
According to stuff.co.nz, the man claims that the New Zealand man, Muhammad Raheesh Isoof who is serving a life sentence for the murder is innocent.
The incident took place in 2019 when the former bus driver, Isoof and his wife were only in Fiji for a holiday.
Isoof was convicted for the murder of his best friend Nirmal Kumar his wife Usha Devi, their daughter Nileshni Kajal and Kajal’s daughters Sanah Singh and Samarah Singh.
During the 2022 trial, prosecutors claimed Isoof as a witch doctor used his influence over the victims to convince them to drink pesticide during a ritual on a clifftop in the Nausori Highlands.
The bodies were found with no visible injuries and Police suspected poisoning as the cause of their death.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime, Mesake Waqa confirms that they have received a letter from Isoof outlining that someone had confessed to him in prison to be responsible for the murder of the 5 people.
ACP Waqa says the investigation is currently underway by the Major Crime Unit CID Headquarters.
