In a bid to decrease the number of Non Communicable Diseases in children, a regulation to control the marketing of unhealthy food to children is expected to be passed soon.

Diabetes Fiji Chairman Dr Wahid Khan said once the regulation is passed it will put a control on the promotion of unhealthy food and beverages to children.

Dr Khan said it will also affect some of the sponsored events that children are involved in.

Dr Khan also said parents should play their part.

A workshop on sugar-sweetened beverages and the regulations to control the marketing of unhealthy food to children was held today in Suva.

The stakeholders included the Consumer Council of Fiji, Diabetes Fiji and Ministry of Health.
