More than 25,000 people in the greater Lautoka area are expected to benefit from the construction of the new pipeline from Varaqe Dam to the Saru Water Treatment Plant.
The project will be conducted by the Water Authority of Fiji.
While visiting the project site, Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau says the project involves upgrading and replacing the existing raw water main.
He adds this will eliminate potential structural stability and failure risks associated with aged infrastructure.
Ro Filipe says the $9.6 million project is expected to mitigate major water disruptions.
