The people of Gau now have a new jetty which will increase the frequency of shipping services to and from the island.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama officially opened the new strongly built jetty saying that it will transform the lives of the people in Gau.
Bainimarama says the completion of this jetty is another milestone delivered by the Government in unlocking the development potential in rural and small island communities to enable ordinary Fijians to benefit economically.
He says for the first time it provides an adequate loading and unloading facility that will cut down on transportation costs and reduce the time it takes to handle cargo.
The jetty is future proofed for a berthing capacity of 10,000 tonne vessels at the front face and can accommodate roll on‑roll off vessels.
The Prime Minister will continue to visit villagers in Gau today.
