Farmers of Nahou in Navosa who have for years been facing problems accessing clean drinking water have a reason to smile as they now have a borehole for safe drinking water.
The farmers celebrated the end of the usage of water from the river catchment which would sometimes dry up during a drought and was not usable if contaminated.
The new Nahou borehole is the ninth borehole in the Aqua Clean Water Program spearheaded by British American Tobacco and key contractor McMillan Pacific in the development of the agriculture sector.
Ministry of Agriculture Director Research Dr Apaitia Macanawai says the Ministry seeks to increase private sector engagement in order to make a competitive, sustainable and resilient agriculture sector.
Macanawai says the project addresses the basic needs of the community and at the same time will contribute to better production and quality crops produced for local and export markets.
