Villagers of Silana in Dawasamu, Tailevu, will now be able to grow their fishing businesses after the village received a 23 ft boat and a 40hp engine from the Ministry of Fisheries.
Speaking on behalf of the villagers, 42-year-old Marica Bolei thanked the Ministry for their timely assistance, as the donation will boost their fishing business.
Bolei says they are also focusing on other plans to branch out into other income-generating activities knowing that they have now set the platform for other young members in the village to follow.
While handing over the assistance, Minister for Fisheries Kalaveti Vodo Ravu says they hope the villagers will be able to properly plan their fishing activities so that there is a steady source of income for the village.
Ravu says this is all in a bid to develop, improve and grow their livelihoods so that their future generation shall also reap the sacrifice made by the villagers today.
The villagers also received their Cooperative Registration Certificate from the Director of the Department of Cooperatives, Faizal Khan.
