New Zealand Primary School teachers and principals plan to walk off the job today for the first time since 1994.
According to New Zealand media, the people who teach the country's primary school‑aged children are unhappy about working conditions and have told the Government it is time for something to change.
Teachers' list of demands in New Zealand includes: reduced workloads and stress, and to ensure schools are equipped with adequate resources, such as a special needs coordinator, in every school.
Teachers want more time to teach. For that to happen they need more incentives for teachers to stay in the industry and to choose it as a career.
To date, the demands set out by the union have not been adequately met, according to New Zealand Educational Institute president Lynda Stuart.
