More than 30 vehicles are being inspected in a day by the new fully automated Vehicle Inspection Machine compared to 20 when the inspection was done manually.
LTA’s spokesperson Iliesa Sokia said the centre which was commissioned about two weeks ago has been operating successfully and they are looking at opening a new fully automated vehicle inspection centre in Lautoka in the next two weeks.
Sokia said they are currently renovating the centre in Lautoka after which the machine will be installed.
He added the machine allows the Authority to have full vehicle inspection capacity from break test, headlight test, smoke test, under carriage, engine diagnostics and other defects that is usually overlooked during manual checks.
Government funded the project at the LTA Headquarters in Valelevu which was quarter of a million dollars.
The same system will be set up in Western and Northern Divisions worth $0.7 million each which will be commissioned soon.
