It was all smiles for more than 200 students of Vunidawa Sanatan Primary School in Naitasiri after the Minister for Education Rosy Akbar commissioned their $1.2 million double-storey building.
The new building has classrooms, a school office, library, sports room, school canteen, computer room, a kindergarten, washroom and tea room.
Speaking at the event, Akbar says not only did Tropical Cyclone Winston bring down the most important building of the school, but it also hurt the education of the hundreds of students in the school.
She says with stronger infrastructure and improved facilities, students now have new and safer classrooms for conducive learning.
Akbar says she does not doubt that these new facilities will surely encourage better school attendance and their uplifted spirits will motivate students to study harder.
