Despite facing many challenges in their life daily, 64 women today graduated from the Makoi Women’s Vocational Centre.
While sharing her story during the ceremony, Merewairita Nele from Beqa says she had to travel for hours before she would reach the centre for her classes.
She says that she was determined to complete her training as the opportunity was far greater than her difficulties.
An emotional Nele adds sometimes she would not have enough money for her bus fare.
Nele graduated from a sewing course.
The Makoi Women’s Training Centre allows developmental opportunities to the underprivileged and disadvantaged women of the society which includes, widows, single mothers, women with little or no formal education, women from broken families, and women from all cultural and religious background.
The centre has successfully enabled hundreds of women to attain skills and knowledge to become economically active, some even able to start their own businesses and employing other women.
