Former Wallabies and Fijian winger Mark Nawaqanitawase is close to making his NRL debut after he was named in the Sydney Roosters’ extended match-day squad that will take on Canberra Raiders this Sunday in round 26 of the NRL competition.
The rugby union convert has played in just two rugby league games at the NSW Cup level since switching sports and has impressed in both of those games giving him a promotion to the main squad.
Nawaqanitawase scored two tries in 2 games for the Roosters’ NSW Cup side helping them to two consecutive wins.
The 23-year-old also recorded 12 tackle busts, three linebreaks, eight offloads and 367 running metres.
With the absence of star outside back Joseph Suaalii from the Roosters’ side for this weekend, an NRL debut for Nawaqanitawase is close to reality.
The Roosters will take on the Raiders at 6.05pm this Sunday.
In other NRL matches this week, the Cowboys will play the Storm at 9.50pm tomorrow, the Bulldogs will take on the Sea Eagles at 8pm Friday, the Panthers will battle the Rabbitohs at 10pm Friday, the Eels will host the Dragons at 5pm Saturday, the Dolphins will play the Broncos at 7.30pm Saturday, the Sharks will take on the Warriors at 9.35pm Saturday and the Knights will play the Titans at 4pm Sunday.
