Navua is expected to be declared as the 14th Fijian Municipal Town in Fiji next month.
The process to declare Navua a town was initiated on 18th September, 2015.
Following the close of submissions, the Local Government Committee prepared its report and presented to the Minister for Local Government, Parveen Bala.
Bala says given that there have been no objections and the fact that the place demands a municipal governance structure with increase in economic activity and population growth, his office has accepted that Navua shall be declared a town.
He says initial funding of the Municipal Council operation will be from the Ministry of Local Government, Housing and Environment budget.
One of the immediate plans is to upgrade the Navua town public facilities including the Navua Municipal Market.
