7pm: The National Fire Authority has managed to contain the fire at Naviti Resort.

Naviti Resort is still shut down after a fire started just after 3pm today.

NFA Media Officer Ritesh Kumar said the Kids club, restaurant and kitchen area sustained damages.

We have received confirmation that the workers and all the guests were evacuated from the resort earlier this afternoon to the Warwick Resort.

The initial investigation into the fire at Naviti Resort revealed that the fire started from the Kids Club.

This has been confirmed by National Fire Authority Media Officer Ritesh Kumar who said that firefighters are still at the scene.

5pm:
Naviti Resort is shut down after a fire started just after 3pm today.

We have received confirmation that the workers and all the guests were evacuated from the resort earlier this afternoon.

National Fire Authority officials have just told us that initial reports suggest the fire started from the resorts’s Kids Club area.

It is now spreading to the other central areas of the hotel.

An official said the fire has also spread to the lounge.  

Sigatoka Fire officers received the fire call and rushed to the scene but the people we have spoken to said they are facing a mammoth task.

Assistant Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu also confirmed that there is a fire at Naviti Resort.

He said the cause and extent of the fire is yet to be established.

He is expected to be briefed soon.

The guests have been transferred to the Warwick hotel.

We spoke to Sandhya Narayan who is currently at the scene.
