The Nausori Town Council says close to 50 acres of state land is sitting idle in Nausori town as they are waiting for the court to decide on a dispute filed by the Mataqali Nakuita.
Special Administrator, Napolioni Masirewa said the landowners are claiming that the state took away the land from them without proper documentation.
Last month, Mosese Veremalumu who spoke on behalf of the mataqali Nakuita and Nailagobokola of Nausori village made a request to the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during a talanoa session that they want to take back the piece of land which their forefathers leased out to the then Colonial Sugar Refining Company.
Masirewa said a number of investors have shown interest to start major projects on this land which includes plans for a construction of a cinema complex.
However, he said since 2011 they have been only waiting for the matter to be resolved for major developments to start in Nausori.
The land that is in dispute is very close to the site where the new Nausori market and bus stand is being built.
