Nausori Businessman, Ravindra Singh has been sentenced to two years and six months imprisonment for a count of possession of illicit drugs.
Singh had 0.2 grams of methamphetamine in his possession inside his office in Manoca, Nausori on 23rd March last year.
Police had also found some items in Singh’s possession that were suspected of being used to manufacture the drugs.
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne says recently the Fiji Police Force had revealed that the Nakasi-Nausori corridor has been identified as the main market for methamphetamine in Fiji and harsher sentences are warranted to deter people from possessing and using this highly addictive drug and to protect young people from this menace.
The court was told during the trial that when Police had told Singh that they would conduct a strip search, Singh had removed his trousers and took out a plastic containing crystals from his undergarment and handed it to police.
It was further revealed in court that Singh was shivering and had told Police that he was sorry and it was for his personal use.
