The National Disaster Management Office has received US$75,000 worth of emergency response equipment from the United Nations World Food Programme and the Government of Brazil.

Minister for Defence, National Security and Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu says today’s handover of the 92 tablets and protective covers, 92 power banks, 6 satellite phones, and 2 satellite terminals will not only upscale NDMO’s emergency response capabilities but also assist in data gathering, planning and offer portable connectivity solutions for the Disaster Risk Management cycle.

He says over the past few weeks, the NDMO has been working with the Government ministries, and partners to consolidate their national operational readiness check.

Seruiratu says the availability of equipment such as those being donated today has definitely boosted their level of preparedness, and will surely assist during periods of response and recovery.
