Nasinu residents have expressed disappointment, claiming the 2024 staff bonus for the Nasinu Town Council should have been allocated to resolve the missed green waste collection scheduled for late December and this week.
While speaking to fijivillage News, residents voiced frustration over uncollected piles of green waste in their neighbourhoods, which have become an eyesore and a potential health hazard.
They say addressing essential services, like waste collection, should take precedence over staff bonuses, especially during times of unmet commitments.
One resident in Narere says the Council promised to collect the green waste in the last week of December that was highlighted in their flyer, but nothing has been done and as weeks go by, the waste is piling up and creating an unpleasant environment.
Another resident from Tovata says the lack of communication from the Council has heightened their frustration and if they cannot fulfil their duties, they should at least inform them about the delays and explain what is being done to resolve the issue.
Residents are calling on the Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa to prioritise addressing the backlog of waste collection, warning that continued delays could lead to further dissatisfaction and questions about the Council’s resource management.
fijivillage News has reached out to the Nasinu Town Council and the Ministry of Local Government for comments on the missed collection dates and the concerns raised by the residents, but they have not responded to our questions since November 24th, last year.
