It will certainly be a merry Christmas for the people of Naivucini village in Naitasiri as after waiting for so long, bright lights lit up the village.
The electricity supply to 118 households in Naivucini with a population of 400 people was made possible by the Minister for Works and Energy's rural electrification programme.
Naivucini village collected $28,000 while other nearby settlements in Serea contributed $20,000 and the Government invested $600,000.
A 77 year old resident Lanieta Naikaucagi could not hold back her tears saying she still remembered the old days when she used cotton wools on tins filled with kerosene for their lights.
She says she is so grateful towards Government in assisting them in having electricity in her village.
