The Naitasiri Provincial Council has agreed for Fiji to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Naitasiri Provincial Council Chairman, Ratu Jone Baledrokadroka says this declaration is a benchmark for Indigenous people to receive benefits from the resources they own.
Ratu Jone says they have seen that, with the current legislation, some operations do not benefit the resource owners.
He says if the new legislation is passed, UNDRIP can be used as a benchmark to ensure the benefits reach the i-Taukei.
