Sitting back and hoping for the best was not an option for Adriu Naisiroki when he had to close his business in March this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The 34-year-old has been selling cakes, muffins, pies and juice in the Ba market since 2018.
Having no other source of income, Naisiroki formed a group called K9E Brothers where they offered to do jobs such as house maintenance, painting, cutting grass, land cultivation, cutting and trimming trees, and light plumbing works.
K9E Brothers do not charge money but barter their services for anything their customer can provide.
Naisiroki says whatever they get from bartering their services, they distribute in the community.
The group has 10 members and now travel around Viti Levu to offer their services depending on their customer's requests.
Naisiroki says their services have already been booked for July and August.
Naisiroki has received a youth grant from the Ministry of Youth and Sports which includes a refrigerator, a blender, storage containers and ingredients used for baking.
He says the baking ingredients will last him a long time adding his wife will now look after their stall as he is busy with K9E Brothers.
Naisiroki adds he will most probably employ someone to help his wife at their stall.
He will begin his cake and juice business again from Monday.
