Plans to declare Nadi a city by 2017 are progressing well.
Minister for Local Government and Housing Parveen Bala says the most important component in declaring a town into a city is the population and they have extended the boundary of Nadi to resolve this.
According to the last census done by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics in 2007, Nadi recorded a population of 42,284 people.
The Nadi Chamber of Commerce has proposed to include Nacovi, Sonaisali Road and Sonaisali Island Resort in the boundary extension in their last meeting on the 25th of November last year.
