Commitment, hardwork and the resourcefulness of the people has made Nadi what it is today.
This was highlighted by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa as she officially opened the Digicel Nadi Bula Festival at the Prince Charles Park.
Vuniwaqa also highlighted that with the theme of the carnival "Transition Starts Where You Live", climate change and its diverse effects, predicted or already registered, constitute a major challenge for people, governments and ecologist around the globe, but for the Pacific, the scenario in question is both very distinctive and very urgent.
She also acknowledged the organizers of the event for their proactive approach and dedication towards the fight against climate change.
Vuniwaqa applauded the Festival committee for their involvement in assisting communities and their families in the renovations of the Nadi hospital and donating $20,000 to the building extension at the Nadi Special School.
Meanwhile, the Digicel Nadi Bula Festival which has been ongoing for the last 57 years will have 9 contestants vying for the crown.
