New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Winston Peters is in Fiji with a delegation to hold bilateral meetings with senior government officials today.

Fiji and New Zealand share a long and enduring diplomatic partnership which spans economic, political and people to people linkages.

New Zealand is also Fiji’s second largest tourism source market and is also a key trading partner for Fiji with trade between the two countries totaling to around $924.57 million in 2017.

This visit will also be an opportunity to consolidate the growing relations between Fiji and New Zealand at all levels following the recent announcement of a ‘Pacific Reset’ by the New Zealand Government.

Peters is expected to pay a courtesy call to the President, Jioji Konrote and meet with the Acting Prime Minister and Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum and the Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs, Inia Seruiratu.

This visit is also anticipated to set the platform for an official visit by New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern later this year.

The delegation includes New Zealand’s Minister for Social Development and Disability Issues, Carmel Sepuloni and Minister for Pacific Peoples, Aupito William Sio, who will also be undertaking bilateral meetings with the members of parliament.

Following the bilateral meetings Winston Peters will depart for Tarawa, Kiribati tomorrow.
