National Federation Party’s newly announced provisional candidate Attar Singh says this is the beginning of another journey for him to help end the suffering of workers and the trade union movement of the country.
Trade unionist Attar Singh, a former NFP leader is one of NFP’S 51 provisional candidates whose nominations will be submitted to the Supervisor of Elections.
Singh says trade unions have been under attack by decrees such as Essential Services Decree of 2011.
He says protest marches have also been refused by the authorities.
NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad says there is no other unionist contesting this general elections with Singh’s experience.
He says during his 35 year career Singh has represented workers in the aviation, telecommunications, mining industry, local government, energy sector, dock workers and has championed the rights of cane growers. He says in his long career Singh has been repeatedly arrested and harassed by the authorities.
