The National Fire Authority will be conducting investigations into the cause of the fire that destroyed a single storey concrete house in Tamani Lane, Milverton Road this morning.
Six people including two children were in the house and were safely evacuated with the help of neighbours.
It is alleged a child had been playing with matches.
Three fire trucks from the National Fire Authority attended to the fire.
A major fire was averted as well as fire fighters managed to prevent it from spreading to nearby barracks.
Neighbour, Maciu Vatuloka who was one of the first people to see the house on fire says the fire started around 7.30am.
Vatuloka says they saw flames coming out of the window from a bedroom at the back of the house.
He says the occupants of the house were asleep at the time and they had to call and knock on the door to wake the family up.
He adds their first instinct was to save the two children inside the house.
