As Diwali approaches, NFA is urging the public to exercise extreme caution especially with the use of diyas which have been linked to recent fires.
While responding to questions by fijivillage, NFA says the three leading causes of fires this year include electrical faults, arson or suspicious activities and unattended cooking.
They say yesterday's fire on Tiri Road, Nadawa is suspected to have been caused by a lit diya, serving as a timely warning as the festive season approaches.
They say essential fire safety precautions including placing candles on heat-resistant surfaces away from flammable materials, extinguishing candles before leaving a room and keeping them out of reach of children and pets.
They add not to leave cooking unattended, keeping stoves free of grease, and ensuring that firewood used outdoors is neatly stacked and fully extinguished.
NFA is reminding families to store firecrackers away from fire sources, light them in open spaces, dispose of used firecrackers in water and supervise children while handling fireworks to avoid accidents.
The NFA says while Diwali is a time of celebration, families must take extra measures to protect their homes and loved ones, ensuring a safe and joyous festive season.
