The National Fire Authority considers cooking as one of the top causes of home fires and is calling on everyone to prioritise fire safety in their homes due to the recent spike in the number of property fires.

With the increase in property fires, the NFA recorded 29 structural fire incidents in the last 3 months from January to the end of March this year, compared to 24 structural fire incidents for the same period last year.

The NFA also says that 6 structural fires were recorded for the first 5 days into April, bringing the total to 35 structural fires to date this year compared to 34 structural fires recorded for the first four months in 2022.

They say that with the predominantly increasing number of residential fires, they are urging all Fijians to continue to observe fire safety in everything they do.

The National Fire Authority is reminding everyone to be responsive to fire safety and cautious when dealing with fire.
