Muslims in Fiji as well as around the world today begin their month long fasting as the moon was sighted last night marking the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan.
The sighting of the new moon has been confirmed by the Fiji Muslim League.
The month of Ramadhan is considered by Muslims to be the most blessed month of the Islamic calendar and they do not eat or drink anything from sunrise till sunset.
Ramadhan takes place during the nineth month of the Islamic calender and Muslims believe the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad during this month.
While Ramadhan is a month of fasting or 'Roza', it is also a time for giving to the less fortunate.
At the end of Ramadhan, Muslims will celebrate the festival of Eid Ul Fitr.
