Murphy, charged with rape pleads not guilty

23‑year‑old Eddie Murphy, who is charged with one count of rape has pleaded not guilty to his charge in the Suva High Court.

It is alleged that Murphy raped an overseas volunteer in Namosi in May this year while the two were volunteering in projects together.

Murphy has also opted to engage a private lawyer.

The court was told today that prosecution will be calling five witnesses while the defence will have three.

Murphy’s trial will take place from 2nd to 13th October next year.

The matter has been adjourned to the 30th of January next year for mention.

Murphy’s bail has been extended.
