One in every two children below two years old in Fiji suffers from anaemia.
These revelations were made during the launch of National Nutrition Month which is marked in August.
The theme for this year’s National Nutrition Month is Act Against Anaemia and this time the focus is on breastfeeding, growing and eating iron rich foods and taking iron supplements.
According to Dr Sharma they are encouraging mothers to breastfeed their baby exclusively from birth to six months.
He added that this also reduces the cost of buying baby milk.
